
PPCC responds to awareness needs of two Procuring Entities
Twenty seven (27) staff members including program directors, members of the procurement unit and senior management team of the Ministry of Gender and Development, on Friday, August 3, 2012 completed a two-day awareness workshop in public procurement. The workshop was held in the Conference Hall of the Ministry, from August 2-3, 2012.
In a special remark delivered at the start of the workshop on behalf of Executive Director Peggy Varfley-Meres, the Director of Finance and Administration, Mr. Joseph S. D. Suah, Sr., made particular reference to the Public Financial Management Act of 2009 in which public procurement is one of the key components. He challenged them to fully avail themselves to the opportunity provided by the Commission and learn the basic rudiments of procurement to ensure compliance with the PPC Act in the conduct of their procurement activities.
Addressing participants on behalf of Gender Minister Julia Duncan Cassell, the Deputy Minister for Research and Planning, Hon. Andrew G. Tehmeh, welcome members of the PPCC awareness team and assured them of the Ministry’s continued commitment to the implementation of the procurement reform program.
In a related development, nine staff members including junior officers and members of the senior management team of the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) attended another awareness workshop held by the PPCC. The workshop was conducted to enhance the knowledge of the participants and to enable them make prudent decisions in the conduct of their procurement activities. It was held in the Conference Room of LWSC from Wednesday, June 27 to Friday June 29, 2012.
In his welcome remarks at the start of the workshop, Deputy Managing Director for Administration, Mr. Emmett M. Watson, lauded the PPCC management for its prompt response to the training need of the entity which he said will help them build a very strong and independent procurement team to ensure compliance with the PPC Act. He assured the PPCC awareness team of their preparedness to fully participate in the workshop.
Topics discussed during the workshop held at both Ministry of Gender and Development, and LWSC include Overview of the PPC Act, Compliance Requirement of PPCA, Preparation of Bid Documents & Qualification of Bidders, Types of Procurement & Methods, Preparation of Procurement Plan, and Complaints, Appeals & Review Process.
