Procurement Directors Undergo Training In Basic Procurement Procedures

A two-day capacity building workshop under the auspices of the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC) and the World Bank, opens in Monrovia this week in the Conference Room of the Corina Hotel in Sinkor.


The workshop which runs from Thursday, 27th November to Friday, 28th November 2008 will be held on the theme: Building the Capacity of Participants in the Application of Basic Procurement Procedures. The two-day training workshop seeks to build the capacity of the newly appointed procurement directors in the application of basic public procurement procedures and to create a sense of transparency and accountability in line with the Public Procurement and Concessions Act.


The directors who represent 24 procuring entities of the Liberian government will also have the opportunity to understand the essence of the Public Procurement Reform, Public Procurement and its relevance in Public Expenditure, Contract Management and Implementation, Procurement Methods and the Bidding Process, Risk Management in Public Procurement, Competitive Bidding in Public Procurement among others.                             


Three international procurement specialists including World Bank Procurement Advisor to PPCC, Clement Ahiawodzi, Mr. David Burnett from IPA, OXFAMís Procurement Specialist, and PPCCís Executive Director, Joseph S. Neufville will facilitate the workshop.     


The Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC) was created by an Act of the National Legislature in September 2005 to oversee all public procurement and concessions processes in Liberia. The PPCC also has a core objective to ensure the economic and efficient use of public funds through public procurement and to ensure that public procurement and concession processes are conducted in a fair, transparent and non-discriminatory manner.
